Instant connection. Instant insight.
Breathing is the most important thing you do. If there's something more important, please let me know.
How you breath, makes a big difference to your experience.
Breathing from your chest (or thoracic breathing) is common especially when one is stressed or feels pressure. Your belly goes in and chest rises.
It increases blood pressure, heart rate, drains energy and over time, turns your blood more acidic. It's dysfunctional and a breeding ground for anxiety.
Functional breathing.
This is where you engage the belly/diaphragm when you breath.
The way to know if you're breathing functionally, is to observe the belly. When you breath in, the belly goes out and blows up like a balloon.
It may feel a bit weird or unusual at first. That's good...that's when the learning is happening.
Belly breathing will store more of your energy, keep your blood pressure and heart rate regular, turns your blood more alkaline over time and stores your precious energy.
Instant connection. Instant insight.
The mind is so often lost in thought (past/future) and it takes one breath to connect your mind with your body.
In order for this to work, you need to sense the breath and know it is your in or out breath.
It will also provide you with instant insight on your current state. If your breath is fast and shallow, there will be tension/stress. If your breath is slow and deep, it shows that you are calm or relaxed.
It's up to you.
Keeping 25% of your open attention on the fact that you are breathing, helps to stay grounded in the present...and to be where your body is.
