Like training a puppy to stay.
Unlike the weather or other people, you control your attitude...and your attitude, determines your experience.
Life will continue with ups and downs. It'll throw curve balls your way.
It will get you out of balance. How you deal with that and how quickly you regain balance, makes a huge difference in the quality of your life.
Helping to navigate ups and downs.
Establish foundations in your meditation practice. These will assist you as life happens. That's where the benefits make the most impact...and when you need them most.
A core skill.
Bring attention to a neutral object, and have it stay there.
When you can do it with your breath; you can do it with your thoughts.
It's for you to discover.
Distractions.
You'll be distracted (over and over). Your mind will wander in thought, imagination and distractions (like someone talking in the background).
For a novice meditator, this will cause frustration...even agitation.
For a seasoned meditator, they will take distractions in their stride. They're able to handle them. For many, distractions are simply a signal...to relax.
Just like training a puppy to stay, be gentle and kind to yourself as you train your own attention + attitude.
The continuity of practice; is the secret to success.
