The posture of meditation

Posture is so important because it's a reminder that this is not just any old sitting. It's a special kind.

And the more you do it, the more you can feel how the body brings the mind with it.

Why? Because this unruly mind, really does need to be tamed, to be settled down.

Once you're in position, the idea is to remain still. If you're going to move, then move deliberately, and then return to stillness.

Because the stillness of the posture, the stillness of the position; is a guide to the stillness of the mind, like a message, a body language. The body is saying to the mind - the aim here is to settle down, to slow down.

It needs some getting used to.

Posture tips.

Sit with alignment - comfortable, upright and with your back straight. Imagine your vertebrae are like coins, neatly stacked on top of each other.

Next, ensure your posture is conducive to relaxation. It is a key component that you are at ease.

Remember that this process works best, when you design it to suit you.

Inner posture.

The reference here, is to your inner world. Some days you will be calm; there may be internal storms happening.

Work with the understanding of impermanence - "This will also change."

So no cravings (to how you want things to be) or aversions (of how things may currently be).

Instead the key here is to observe your own reality as it is. And this is easier said than done.

Progress.

Yet, just like any other skill, it takes time, effort and repetition. Yet little by little, day by day, the changes will happen.

After one step, things look the same. After 1000, things are very different.
