Scrolling and Netflix are relaxing.

After all the busyness and rushing around of work and daily life, who doesn't like getting lost in a Series on Netflix? It feels relaxing right.

And with your phone nearby (or in hand), you feel connected with what's happening around the world right now. It's a dopamine hit.

It's likely your body will be relaxing too...chilling on the couch.

Terrific...because when you're body is relaxed, your mind follows suit.

And this relaxation can last hours...in one evening.

Relaxation is so important.

When you're relaxed, there is a sense of ease. You attend to wanted (and unwanted) situations with more balance. Life becomes more fluid and there is more space in your mind, for those new ideas to come in.

It is one of the biggest and best byproducts of meditation.

Taking relaxation to the next level.

When you're on a screen (like now), your brain is still quite stimulated. All the colours, shades and lights, are sending signals for your brain to process.

Consider also, that you couldn't possibly know everything that's going on. At some point, you'll need to point your attention away from the phone.

Note: The more information pump into the brain, the harder is has to work.

A 5 minute No-Tech (or low-tech) 'Brain Break' enhances your ability to relax.

With it, there is no stimulation, no conversation...and certainly no phone.

It can be structured (like we teach) or as basic as looking up at the sky.

You let your mind go into neutral by letting it idle, letting it rest. Let your mind be bored. Just for 5mins. Observe what happens.

The brain science.

In this way, you rest the executive part of your brain (pre-frontal cortex).

It's a well deserved break from all that activity and allows other brain regions to connect. This helps to stay on task, be embodied in whatever you're doing.

You may like to join in a 30min weekly meditation session on Zoom. With a 20min Brain Break, you’ll walk out feeling better.
